A San Antonio Artist
“Painting has always been my outlet. It offers others the chance to see things through my eyes and to share in the joys I have experienced and enjoyed so much”. |

Elsa Lopez Mathews is a native of San Antonio, Texas. She started working in Watercolor in 1986 and expanded her media to include Acrylic, Oil and Mixed Media Collage. Between 2000 and 2005 Elsa took a hiatus from painting to focus on her work and health. She is happy to have returned to her art and looks forward to participating in upcoming art events. Currently, Elsa is a member of the River Art Group, San Antonio Watercolor Group, the Rockport Center for the Arts, and Brushstrokes (a critique group composed of eleven women artists).
Elsa enjoys working with the figure and is currently combining the figure with collage and other media. She prefers to work from life and with subjects that have a personal meaning. Among her favorite subjects are San Antonio and it’s amazing people. Elsa most recently participated in the LuminariaSA 2009 where she displayed pieces from her San Antonio Shoppers Series.
Her work can be best described as a contemporary realistic style. She is most noticeably influenced by her Hispanic heritage and love of family. Both are represented in her love for color. Although a native Texan, Elsa has enjoyed living on the East Coast and in Arizona. She enjoys spending time at her Rockport,TX home and enjoys traveling with her husband Lloyd. She gains inspiration from her day to day life and all of her travels. Elsa has the ability to capture the beauty in every day life.
